Understanding Coolsculpting®Coolsculpting® is a method of cryolipolysis. When patients have unwanted fat on the body, this device is used as a fat freezing solution. It allows the doctor to target areas of the body that are not responding to traditional diet and exercise and is a non-surgical option for patients who do not want to undergo traditional plastic surgery. Coolsculpting® is a revolutionary solution for unwanted fat.
Am I a good candidate for Coolsculpting®?Most patients who are appropriate candidates for Coolsculpting® have average body mass index, or BMI, and are seeking methods of treatment that do not involve surgery. Most patients have a specific area of the body that is not responding to traditional fat loss methods that they want to target. It is important for patients to understand that Coolsculpting® is not a weight reduction treatment, but rather a body contouring solution.
How much does the Coolsculpting® procedure cost? The cost of Coolsculpting® treatments will vary from patient to patient. This is because the treatment needs to be tailored to each individual. The area being treated, the size of the area being treated, and the number of treatment sessions required will all affect the overall cost of treatment. To narrow down a specific cost, it is essential that patients book a consultation appointment with Elizabeth Rodriguez to be evaluated and learn more about the specifics of treatment.
How is the Coolsculpting® Treatment Performed?Patients first relax on a treatment table or in a treatment chair where they are made comfortable. The Coolsculpting® device is then placed in the targeted area and the device is adjusted to the proper settings for the patient. Then, the device works its magic! Patients relax while the Coolsculpting® device targets deep below the skin to freeze the fat away!
How long does each session takes? Most treatment sessions are under 30 minutes, but this will vary, depending on the area the patient is having treated.
How many sessions will I need?Patients may need several sessions to achieve their desired results. It is important that patients consult with their doctor to get a general idea of how many sessions will be needed to achieve the results they desire. Patients should also have realistic expectations of the results they can achieve with this and other body contouring solutions available in our practice. We encourage patients to work with Elizabeth Rodriguez during their consultation appointment to decide how many sessions may be needed so patients have a better idea of the overall cost and expectations of this and other services available at Beer Dermatology.
Where does the fat go?With Coolsculpting®, the fat is frozen, and the body’s lymphatic system will naturally flush the cells out of the body. This is all done over time, so results from this treatment are gradual, not immediate. Patients find that this is a more beneficial way of treating unwanted fat as the results are not drastic and patients will slowly begin to slim over several weeks. This eliminates the look of having “work done” and allows patients to feel more confident in their decision to have non-surgical treatments performed.
Are Coolsculpting® results permanent?Absolutely! With Coolsculpting®, the results are lasting, as fat cells are never replaced by the body. Once the fat cells are frozen, and naturally flushed from the system, they are gone for good, and patients can continue to live their active lifestyle and eat right to maintain their results for many years!
Is the Coolsculpting® procedure safe?Coolsculpting® is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration as a safe and effective way to remove unwanted fat through cryolipolysis. It has been used by thousands of patients who have been able to achieve more attractive body contours with the use of this amazing technology.
What are the side effects/risks of Coolsculpting®?Patients who undergo Coolsculpting® may find that they experience a few side effects following their treatments. This may include redness, tenderness, and bruising at the treatment site. However, these are relatively short term and do not affect their ability to return to daily activities. The side effects and risks of Coolsculpting® are much less than that of surgical treatments such as liposuction or tummy tucks.
What is Cryolipolysis? Many patients have heard of liposuction, during which a cannula is used to suction out fat cells from the specific areas of the body. With cryolipolysis, patients can enjoy non-surgical fat reduction. This fat freezing procedure is used in freezing fat cells instead of manually removing them. By freezing the fat cells, they are then naturally flushed out of the body over the course of time, resulting in a smaller midsection.

Most treatment sessions are 45 minutes, but this will vary depending on the patient and the area treated.
The approved areas of Coolsculpting are under the chin, bra fat, under the arms, back fat, flanks, thighs, and abdomens.
Where does the fat go, are results permanent, and what are the side effects?
Once the fat cells are frozen and naturally flushed from the system, the results are permanent. People can continue with their natural lifestyle and eat right to maintain the results for many years.
There might be a few short term side effects. They are redness, tenderness, and bruising at the treatment sites.
Anyone who would not be a good candidate for Coolsculpting?
Patients that are obese, mothers to be, someone who requires fast results, patients with recent surgeries, patients with lymphatic system diseases should not select this treatment.
Can I immediately return to normal activities after treatment?Yes! One of the reasons our patients love Coolsculpting® is because it does not require them to take days or weeks off work and special activities to recover from their procedure. Coolsculpting® is done right in our office and allows patients to get back to their day with little interruption. Elizabeth Rodriguez finds that patients get right back to work, school, and exercise without having to take off for recovery. This makes it easy to get Coolsculpting® treatments integrated into busy lifestyles.
When I will start seeing results after Coolsculpting®?Because cryolipolysis requires the body to naturally flush the frozen fat cells through the lymphatic system, the results of Coolsculpting® can take some time. Immediate results are not achieved. Instead, the results develop over the course of several weeks. Patients will notice their body “shrinking” over several months with each treatment they receive. Since the results are gradual, patients can achieve better body contours and proper fat reduction without having gone through plastic surgery to do so!
What Parts of the Body Can Be Treated with Coolsculpting®?Coolsculpting® is more commonly used to treat the abdominal area, though other areas of the body can be treated as well. We encourage patients to ask their doctor about the area in need of treatment to determine if Coolsculpting® can be used to reduce fat in this area.
Is Coolsculpting® a FDA-Approved Treatment? At Beer Dermatology, we only use safe and approved techniques for treating medical and cosmetic dermatology needs. The Coolsculpting® device is approved by the FDA for use in reducing fat in the treatment area through the process of cryolipolysis. We want our patients to know that all their treatments are not only effective, but also safe to use in achieving the body of their dreams!
What are the benefits of Coolsculpting®?
Coolsculpting® is often chosen by our patients because it has a variety of advantages. First, it does not require the patient to have plastic surgery. There is no cutting of the skin, and the treatment is comfortable. Patients also love the ability to gradually improve their body contours and get back to their lives after each treatment, never missing work, school, or family time due to downtime. The treatment is also done without the use of general anesthetics, so patients are awake during their Coolsculpting® services. Patients relax and listen to music, watch television, or read while the Coolsculpting® device provides cooling sensations and freezes away the fat cells for good! Coolsculpting® provides permanent results and can help patients drop one or more pant sizes over the course of their services.
