WHAT IS ECZEMA?

Eczema, or atopic dermatitis, is a skin condition characterized by uncomfortable patches of dry, itchy skin that can become aggravated by scratching. The condition could be chronic (present for a long period of time) or acute (appearing suddenly with intense symptoms that worsen and spread). Eczema could also fall into one of the following categories:

• Irritant Contact Dermatitis – Irritated skin caused by exposure to detergents and chemicals or through prolonged friction.
• Allergic Contact Dermatitis – An allergic skin reaction resulting from certain substances, often nickel, rubber or fragrance.
• Nummular Dermatitis – Round or oval patches of irritation that can last for months, especially following a burn, insect bite or abrasion.
• Dyshidrotic Dermatitis – Small, itchy blisters that form on the hands and feet, particularly as a response to stress, allergies, or exposure to harsh chemicals.
